About ourselves

Founded in 1945 as Derby Recorded Music Society, the Circle has enabled many people to enjoy music, and to share their enjoyment, through the medium of recordings. Sixty years ago the recordings were 78 rpm discs, but today most programmes use CDs. Meetings are fairly informal and include an interval when members can get together over refreshments.

When and where?

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday evenings of the month (September to April) at 7:30 pm, at the Friends' Meeting House, St Helen's Street, Derby. This is close to the inner ring road, parking is available nearby and the nearest bus stop is the Seven Stars on King Street. The Friends' Meeting House has level access throughout for wheelchair users.

How much?

Our annual subscription, due in September, is £11, with a joint subscription of £20.00 for two members of the same household; reduced subscriptions of £6.50 and £12 apply for members who join for the first time after 1st January. In addition, members pay £2 (which includes interval refreshments) at each meeting they attend.

Want to try us out

No problem! Visitors are always welcome and may attend one or two meetings for £3 per meeting, which includes a £1 temporary membership fee. After two meetings we hope you will want to join the Society and if so your temporary membership fees will be deducted from your subscription.

AND FURTHER AFIELD - LET THE MUSIC COME TO YOU!

In addition to our regular meetings we are now able take programmes “on the road” – to other societies or to places where people would find it difficult to get to our meetings. If you are interested in us visiting you please enquire for details.

We are affiliated to the Federation of Recorded Music Societies, which as well as representing the interests of affiliated societies actively encourages societies to get together to share musical and social activities and organises day and weekend events on both a national and a regional basis. Details will be given to members as they become available.
