Garstang and District
Recorded Music Society

About the Society

The Society is a group within the Garstang and District Arts Society and is affiliated to the FRMS.

We meet monthly throughout the year. At most meetings, a member or guest presents a programme of music. The core is always classical, but in the broadest sense, and programmes often include a seasoning of jazz, folk or brass — we have even had bagpipes!

The programmes entertain and inform, introduce unfamiliar music and revisit old favourites, and they never assume or require technical knowledge. They generally have a theme — recent examples include a programme of music inspired by Myths and Legends, and, by a guest presenter, a fascinating journey through many generations of Bachs, famous and obscure.

Come and Join Us

We meet in Garstang Arts Centre, which is at the north end of High Street, opposite the car park and the council offices. Meetings start at 7:30 pm (always promptly) and finish around 9:40 (give or take), with an interval for refreshment.

Visitors are welcome. The FRMS licence requires visitors to be temporary members for the evening; we ask for £2, but offer complimentary tea or coffee.

If, after two or three evenings as a visitor, you decide to join us regularly, you will be asked to part with your full subscription. Annual membership currently totals £20, of which £2 is subscription to the RMS group and the remainder is subscription to the parent Arts Society.
(If you are already a member of the Arts Society, you do not have to pay twice.)
