Kirkcaldy RMS is one of the oldest recorded music societies in Scotland. It evolved from the Nairn Gramophone Society which was a gramophone society set up for the employees of Michael Nairn & Co. Ltd., the famous Kirkcaldy-based linoleum manufacturers.

Kirkcaldy RMS is affiliated to the Federation of Recorded Music Societies and is a member of the Scottish Group of the Federation of Recorded Music Societies.
