Theme for 2008 "Music for the Time and the Season"

Unless stated otherwise, our meetings begin at 7.30 p.m. with a short break for refreshments

January 16th "Winter Music"

Conductor Ralph Woodward presents his first programme, which includes Britten's Winter Words and Will Todd's Midwinter.

January 30th "A Night of Knights"

Tony Pook from York RMS presents music by knighted British composers.

February 13th "Music from the Tribes"

A variety of music from Papua New Guinea presented by Marion Bailey who lived there at one time.

February 27th "Songs of Time and Season"

Opera and lieder excerpts reflecting the passing of time and of the seasons
presented by Graham Bridges, secretary of Norwich Opera Club.

March 12th "The Early Romantics"

Roderick Shaw plays music including Robert Schumann's "Spring Symphony" and other works
by Weber, Berlioz, Mendelssohn and Wagner.

March 26th "The Seasons"

Brian Pearce, NMS Chairman, presents music from the ballet "The Seasons"by Glazunov
and a DVD of "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi.

April 9th "Festival Preview"

Roger Rowe presents excerpts from the forthcoming Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

April 23rd "Shakespeare and St George"
                                                                                                   

Our patron, John Rutter, visits on St Georges Day with an appropriate programme of music.

May 7th Norfolk & Norwich Festival

May 21st "Spring Piano Recital"

This concert at Taverham Hall features Jonathan Wortley playing music by
Grieg, Ireland, Sinding, Palmgren and Tchaikovsky.

June 4th "The President's Music"

Stewart Orr, NMS President, present music from his extensive collection that continues our theme for 2008.

June 18th "Summer Concert"

Details of this concert are to be announced.

July 2nd "Music for a Midsummer Night"

Cathy Bryant presents Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream and Hugo Alfven's Midsummer Vigil.

September 10th "Debussy Remembered"

Keith Roe, NMS Treasurer, presents Debussy's Quartet for Strings Op.10, Jeux Poeme Danse and La Mer.

September 24th "Rutland Boughton: Beyond The Immortal Hour"

The composer's grandson, Ian Boughton, presents an illuminating programme that includes some of his lesser-known music.

October 8th "Kinderheit"

Reflections and reminiscences on childhood, arranged and presented by Thelma Shaw.

November 5th "Fly, Envious Time"

For many people time passes all too quickly, for others it can seem to stand still. The music in this programme
explores our responses to the passage of time and is arranged and presented by Allan Child.

November 19th "Songs from the Shows"

Andrew Slatter presents songs from the many musicals that he sang in.

December 3rd "Winterreise"

Schubert's song cycle masterpiece is presented by Joe Stirling.

December 17th                                                         Christmas Programme

Members choice of music, poetry, readings, humorous recordings and carols
to celebrate the Festive  Season - and plenty of time to socialise afterwards!".
