Dear
Putney Music members
Aug 2010
The
Committee hopes that you all have had a very good summer. We're looking
forward to the start of the new season, and a new programme, organised
by Margaret Lyons, full of interest and variety.
The 60th anniversary cruise on the Salamander was a very enjoyable event,
attended by 67 people. There was musical entertainment, lavish afternoon
tea, and bubbly. Even the rain which arrived towards the end of the trip
didn't dampen our spirits. Our sincere thanks to the sub-committee of
Barbara Bunn, Margaret Lyons and Eve Slocombe who did so much to make
it a great success.
The
raffle prizes winners were as follows:
Joyce
Scroxton - Wigmore tickets x2
(Elizabeth Watson won them but knew she couldn't go, and very generously
offered them to another ticketholder. Thank you Elizabeth.)
Mr G Ives-Wigmore tickets x 2
Marlene Bonwit- Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries
Ann Partridge- bottle of sparkling wine
Andrew Neill -bottle of Cote de Beaune
Alan Rowe- boxed set of cups & saucers with gold decoration
Marjory Bayliss -Bailey's Irish Cream
Mrs J Digby - Glass bowl and handmade chocolates
Road
works along Upper Richmond Rd
We
thought we should warn members who live outside the immediate vicinity
of the Dryburgh Hall that there are road works on the Upper Richmond Rd,
where they are replacing gas mains from 6th July - 25th October 2010,
from Ravenna Road Junction to Dryburgh Road.
Upper Richmond Road will be one way from Dryburgh Road for eastbound traffic
travelling towards Putney High St. Local traffic will be able to gain
access westbound to Ravenna and Burston Road from Putney High St. All
non-local traffic will be diverted via Tibbets Corner onto the A3 Kingston
Bypass and finally turning right into Roehampton Lane (A306).
Three
bus routes will be diverted:
Route
337- towards Richmond. From Upper Richmond Road at Putney Hill, left
Putney Hill, right Wildcroft Road, bear right Putney Heath, right Dover
House Road, left Upper Richmond Road to line of route.
Route 430 - towards Roehampton. From Putney High Street at Putney
Hill, ahead Putney Hill, right Wildcroft Road, bear right Putney Heath
to line of route.
Route N74 - towards Roehampton. From Putney High Street at Putney
Hill, ahead Putney Hill, right Wildcroft Road, bear right Putney Heath,
right Dover House Road, left Upper Richmond Road, left Roehampton Lane
to line of route.
Unfortunately, delays are expected on bus routes 14, 37, 39, 74, 85, 93,
170, 424 and 493.
This sounds ghastly, but drivers can approach the Dryburgh Hall from the
Lower Richmond Rd, or park in some of the neighbouring roads south of
the Upper Richmond Rd and walk across to the Dryburgh Hall Please do
not be deterred!
Another
issue
The
Chair and Secretary of Putney Music have both decided independently that
after 10 and 20 years respectively on the Committee it is time to stand
down. Both of us are willing to work until December 2010 or April 2011
to give the Committee chance to find new people. If any one is willing
to take on either of these posts, or has suggestions for people who might
be interested, please do let us know. The Committee will be attending
to the job of filling these posts as a matter of urgency.
Welcome to our new Membership Secretary, Cynthia Butterworth, who has
agreed to take this job on, and to Dr Sushma Sabnis who has joined the
Committee.
We
look forward very much to seeing you all on September 20th for the start
of our season when Carl Davis will be talking to us about his career in
music.
Warm
regards
Cathy Connolly and Putney Music Committee
