The St Fillans Music Circle welcomes applications from any members of the Strathearn public interested in the appreciation of classical music. Although the Circle meets in St Fillans, most members come from Crieff, Comrie and surrounding districts. Are you interested in joining a group with twelve years of successful musical enjoyment, learning and companionship?

The Circle meets weekly on Tuesdays during the autumn and spring, from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm in the Sandison Hall,St Fillans. The first hour is purely social: we have a light lunch, to which the guest speaker and any performers are also invited. Then there is a programme of classical music. The presentation usually consists of a musical talk on the subject of the guest's choosing, interspersed with the playing on hi-fi equipment of extracts from CDs illustrating the main features of the talk. Well known authorities feature regularly in the programme, such as Myra Soutar, recently retired from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and Peter Rutterford, retired Director of Music, Royal Marines. The programme is varied from time to time by live concerts from local school orchestras such as Crieff High School and Dollar Academy, and by DVDs of full length operas and ballets projected on a large screen.

The Circle has also established a Young Musicians Fund from which grants are made to promising and talented music students, to the National Youth Choir of Scotland, to the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and to Perth and Kinross Music Foundation. It is affiliated to the Scottish Federation of Recorded Music Societies.

Members pay a subscription of £30 at the start of each session, for which they receive eleven lunches and presentations. Alternatively, a supporter can pay at the door for individual attendances at the rate of £5 a time. Everyone attending also gives £1 for the Young Musicians' Fund. This works out at an average inclusive charge of £3.75 per meeting - good value for a soup lunch, conversation and friendship, quite apart from the musical element.
The next session runs from 17th January 2012 to 27th March 2012. Full details of the programme are available on request. Any further enquiries can be made to the Chairman, David Anderson, Larklea, Barrack Road, Comrie, tel: 01764 670829 or the Secretary, John Southorn tel; 01764 670135. The Circle welcomes new members at any time.
Why not attend as a visitor in the first instance - we are sure you will find a great welcome!
