Ron Cooper For his first YRG presentation, Ron, the Barnsley RMS Chairman, opens our weekend exploring the development of the symphonic or tone poem, from its roots in the early 19th century Romantic movement through to the early years of the 20th century. |
Saturday 28th March 11.00 - 12.30 pm |
Chris Richmond Chris, Chair of Wakefield RMS, is another YRG debutant and will explore works by neglected male and female composers of the 20th Century. |
2.00 - 3.30 pm |
Dr Geoff Ogram We welcome to the YRG the Secretary of Stafford RMS. With a particular interest in 20th Century British music, Geoff will present a programme of music by his friend, Gordon Jacob (about whom he has written a book), a much neglected composer. |
4.00 - 5.30 pm |
Gordon Drury London's Kingsway Hall was revered by many as one of the finest ever recording venues. Gordon, who worked in R&D n the broadcasting industry, will present an audio/visual programme which will include legendary recordings made in the hall. |
8.15 - 9.45 pm |
Robert Seager In a welcome return, Robert will play a selection of music from the silver screen. Featured composers will include Korngold and Bernard Herrmann, while one item in particular should ensure no-one 'drifts' off after having just been wined and dined! |
Sunday 29th March 11.00 - 12.30 pm |
Eric Jennings We welcome Eric to the YRG. He is a former Principal Trombone with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and will reflect on life with the conductors he played under, illustrated by a selection of his favourite recordings. |
2.30 - 4.45 pm |
Tony Haywood Tony ( Huddersfield RMS) reviews new CD releases for both the FRMS Bulletin and Musicweb International, and in a change to the usual Sunday afternoon format, will play excerpts from recent releases that have particularly attracted his attention. Audio/Visual presentation. |
8.15 - 9.45 pm |
Allan
Child An entertainment for Sunday evening with music suggested by the words of a well-known song. Allan is acting Chairman of the FRMS and although he now lives in the Midlands, is a Yorkshireman by birth (certificate available on request!). The programme is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek homage to his native county. |
Monday March 30th 10.00 - 12.00 noon |
Geoff Bateman Following his Mercury programme in 2010, Geoff, now acting Chair at Huddersfield RMS, will dip into the early RCA stereo catalogue. The programme will include recordings by Fritz Reiner and Charles Munch, while a shipwreck will bring our weekend to a close. |
